IABTI has a long history of recognizing exceptional individuals who have gone out of their way to further the aims and goals of the IABTI. These men and women, through action and integrity, have brought great credit to the profession and, thereby, to IABTI.

These awards are not intended as an acknowledgement for a single incident of outstanding work or bravery. They are intended to reflect a consistent record in the EDU/EOD field and the highest standards of service. To be nominated reflects the highest regard and respect from IABTI peers.

Roger Goad Award

Preamble

The Roger Goad Memorial Award has been presented to the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators (IABTI) in memory of Captain Roger Goad, an Explosive Officer with the Metropolitan Police, London, England, who was tragically killed in London during August of 1975 while attempting to disarm an improvised explosive device or homemade bomb. That 1976 should be the year of inception of this annual award is appropriate in that the founders of the IABTI celebrated their 200th year of independence in that year.

Qualifications

The Roger Goad Memorial Award may be awarded each year to that member of IABTI who has done the most to further the aims and goals of the IABTI or who, by their actions, has brought great credit to the profession and, thereby, to IABTI.

Ron Purvis Award

Preamble

The Ron Purvis Memorial Award is intended to recognize the technician or investigator who exemplifies all those qualities that resided in Ron himself: strength, leadership and motivation. The Innukshuk (an Inuit word meaning “in the image of man”) is a stone figure built to represent the human form. Innukshuk can be found along Canada’s northern shores from Baffin Island to Victoria Island. Originally built as a landmark to aid in navigation and assist in caribou hunting, the Innukshuk has been adopted today as a symbol to remind us of our dependence on each other and the value of strong relationships.

Qualifications

Nominations, and the final selection, will reflect the memory of the man who was Ron Purvis. This is not intended as an award for a single incident of outstanding work or bravery. On the contrary, it is intended that the selected nominees have a proven, consistent record in the EDU/EOD field and that the IABTI members making nominations provide a complete and detailed history of the nominee. The history must state the contributions and achievements of the nominee, with a traceable background that clearly identifies the benefits and enhancements that the nominee has brought to his/her chosen field of endeavor.
